Caroni Swamp
The
second largest mangrove in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caroni Swamp, is an ecologically
diverse wetland. The rich biodiverse wetland, is the habitat to a variety of flora
and faunal species namely the country’s national bird, the scarlet ibis. It’s a
remarkable sight and an unforgettable experience to view thousands a scarlet
ibis as they fill the sky creating a brilliant scarlet colour. This occurs just
before sunset as the birds return to nest. Several tours are offered at the
sight during which a number of species can be seen including a variety of
birds, snakes and on occasions, caimans. It is an experience every trini or
even tourist must see at least once.
