Caroni Swamp

The second largest mangrove in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caroni Swamp, is an ecologically diverse wetland. The rich biodiverse wetland, is the habitat to a variety of flora and faunal species namely the country’s national bird, the scarlet ibis. It’s a remarkable sight and an unforgettable experience to view thousands a scarlet ibis as they fill the sky creating a brilliant scarlet colour. This occurs just before sunset as the birds return to nest. Several tours are offered at the sight during which a number of species can be seen including a variety of birds, snakes and on occasions, caimans. It is an experience every trini or even tourist must see at least once.

  9. I've been there so many times and the boat ride down the river is always breathtaking. I hope we put more effort into keeping these animals safe and keeping the swamp clean. It truly is a national treasure
