Fort George

Built in 1804, this historic Trinidadian structure provides visitors with a taste of the island's colonial heritage.  It is a terrific destination that provides one of the most spectacular views of Port of Spain and the sea. In addition to its well persevered structure, original cannons, dungeons, artefacts of the day and a signal station which was established in 1802 and designed by Prince Kofi Nti of Ashanti, West Africa, can be seen. The fort which was the major defensive position in Trinidad, never experienced military action and ceased to be a Military establishment in 1846.
The fort's grounds provide a panoramic view of the site and this is what makes the visit to this destination worthwhile. Fort George's grounds are equipped with picnic tables available to the public where visitors can enjoy a nice evening enjoying the scenic spot. Restrooms are also located within the fort, as well as a visitor's centre where visitors can obtain more information about the fort’s history. Fort George is free to the public and opens daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It truly provides.  This destination is not only fun and relaxing but is also educational and as such is highly recommended.
